A Certified Chimney Professional® is an individual who has completed the Certified Chimney Professionals® training program. They have studied the most current rules, methods, codes and standards and have proven proficiency by passing professional level testing. Additionally, they have committed to our Code of Conduct. It’s one thing to have a chimney sweep at your home, it’s quite another thing to have a Certified Chimney Professional® at your home. You can rest assured that they have a professional level grasp of the knowledge needed to serve you properly.
- What is Certified Chimney Reliner®?
A Certified Chimney Reliner® is an individual who has completed the Certified Chimney Reliners® training program. They have studied the most current rules, methods, codes and standards and have proven proficiency by passing professional level testing. They are familiar with all the common forms of chimney relining, when it is needed and which types of chimney relines are appropriate for each situation. Additionally, they have committed to our Code of Conduct. Its one thing to have a chimney reliner at your home, it’s quite another thing to have a Certified Chimney Reliner® at your home. You can rest assured that they have a professional level grasp of the knowledge needed to serve you properly.
- What is a Certified Master Chimney Technician®?
A Certified Master Chimney Technician® is a chimney professional with a minimum of 8 years of full time experience servicing chimneys and a minimum of 6 years of certification. They have studied the most current rules, methods, codes and standards and have proven proficiency by passing professional level testing. Additionally, they have committed to Code of Conduct. It is one thing to have a chimney sweep at your home, it is quite another thing to have a Certified Master Chimney Technician® at your home. You can rest assured that they have a professional level grasp of the knowledge needed to serve you properly and years of experience.
- Why should I use a Certified Chimney Professional®?
Why for a minute would you ever consider using an individual who has not proven that they know what in the world they are doing? The only issue is money. If the certified sweeps are all $250.00 and some guy is only $100.00, you will get what you pay for. There is a reason to use a Certified Chimney Professional® and that is PROVEN knowledge and expertise. Beside, the following is more than true: Skilled labor is not cheap, & cheap labor is not skilled! In most cases, people end up spending far more money by using the “cheap” guy first, and then having the Certified Chimney Professional® in to fix the problems the cheap guy caused and then to do the original job right! Just get it done right the first time and you will end up saving money in the long run.

Certified Chimney Reliners® is the ONLY chimney relining certification in the United States. Chimney professionals who have earned this designation have studied:
- All the common relining methods, what type of liners are appropriate for specific jobs, what types are not appropriate for specific jobs, metallurgy and chimney liners, cast-in-place liners, relining coatings, when relining is appropriate, when it is not, proper sizing, etc….
Certified Chimney Reliners® are the ONLY chimney professionals who have proved by Professional Level testing that they have a complete grasp of chimneys, chimney liners & chimney relining. They will know what is right in your situation and if you even need a relining.
If you need to have a chimney relined, or have been told so by a chimney sweep who IS NOT a Certified Chimney Reliner®, please consider the advantages offered by a proven, tested, qualified technician who has earned the designation. Additionally, encourage any chimney sweep who you might wish to service your home to earn the designation(s) before you have them out again. You do have a choice!
- How do I make sure I get a Certified Chimney Professional®?
When you call any chimney cleaning company, insist that the technician they send out be a Certified Chimney Professional®. When the technician shows up at your door, ask for their badge and look for our logos:
You have a choice. You deserve the best! Choose to use a Certified Chimney Professional®, a Certified Chimney Reliner®, or a Certified Master Chimney Technician® for great service!
- How do I find a Certified Chimney Professional® in my area?
On the home page of Certified Chimney Professionals® you will find our locate a certified sweep box. Just enter your zip code and click SEARCH. If there are any chimney professionals who currently have any of our certifications within 50 miles of your area they will show up in the results!
MOST of the competent chimney sweeps are familiar with our certifications. Ask if they are Certified by Certified Chimney Professionals® and that you are looking for and only want to use a Certified Chimney Professional® or a Certified Chimney Reliner® or a Certified Master Chimney Technician® and then verify their certification by checking on our website.
Again, don’t just settle, DEMAND that your chimney professional become a Certified Chimney Professional®, a Certified Chimney Reliner® or a Certified Master Chimney Technician®. Their cost is NOT that great! It averages only $150.00 a year to maintain CCP, CCR, or CMCT certification. If they are competent, then you can let them know that they should do this if they expect to serve you! You have a choice and you want a Certified Chimney Professional®, a Certified Chimney Reliner®, or a Certified Master Chimney Technician®.
Do note: There are other Chimney Sweep certifications out there and we respect them. We encourage all homeowners to use a certified chimney professionals whenever possible! However – do know that there is NO OTHER chimney relining certification out there than the Certified Chimney Reliner®. You should demand that any chimney professional who would dare to reline or install a chimney liner in your chimney have this designation.
- How do you know if you are being scammed?
Sadly, there are many chimney companies which are not trustworthy. Some chimney companies and individuals will use scare tactics to convince customers that they have no choice but to spend large amounts of money to rebuild or reline your chimney. Here are things to look for if you “think” this may be happening to you:
- If the company that asks for a large deposit immediately, before any work is done, and if they happen to “have the liner on the truck…” but mostly, if they want to start the work immediately even though you are not experiencing an emergency situation.
- If your instinct tells you something is wrong it probably is.
- They will try to use scare tactics. One common example is the use of carbon monoxide threats. While this is a possibility many companies will use this to scare you into spending your money.
